Cars in German Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities mentioned they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
